Talenberg
Submitted by: Daniela Mavor (Talenberg), Tel Aviv
My father, Josef Talenberg (Thalenberg) z”l, was born in Drohobycz on April 13th, 1907. He was exceptionally talented, sociable and an outstanding family man.
He grew-up in extremely poor conditions after his father and oldest brother were killed in an accident while working in the Boryslaw oil fields. From the age of eight he worked to support and provide for his family and studied in the evenings.
There is no information regarding the way he survived the holocaust, He was seen, wearing a striped shirt, in one of the photos taken by the allied forces in 1945 during the liberation of a death camp.
After the war he became the Head of the Ministry of Health Services in the district of Wrocław, Poland . After immigrating to Israel, he was elected to be the chairman of the Drohobycz-Borysław organization in the early 1960s. He served in that capacity until his health started to deteriorate. He passed away in 1965 when he was only 58 years old.
