Gerstman

Submitted by Pirhia Marinov, Ramat Hasharon
Dolek (Adolf) was born in Drohobycz on February 5th, 1911 to Osias Gerstman, an agronomist, and Berta (Badian) a housewife. Dolek had two younger sisters, Recha (Rachel) and Mania (Miriam). Recha married Zalman Schiff before the war and they had a baby girl. Dolek’s large extended family lived in both Drohobycz and Stryj. They were murdered in Belzec.
Only one cousin from the Badian (Galica) side of the family survived the holocaust and lives in Ness-Ziona. Dolek kept in touch with her throughout the years.
My father used to talk at length about his childhood and adulthood in Drohobycz. In his early years in Israel, he was deeply involved and attended all the memorial gatherings of Drohobycz Jews.
My father renewed contacts with his close childhood friends who immigrated to Israel after Israel’s independence: Dr. Shlomo Brawer, who studied medicine in Italy and immigrated with his wife Nelli and their son, Leo, and with (his friend) Leon Klinghofer.
