Koch-Lilien

Lusia – Lea Lilien (Koch) the oldest daughter of Berta Sztruk and Salomon Koch was born in Boryslaw on November 22nd, 1929 and passed away on February 27, 2017 at the age of 87. She had a younger sister, Anna.
Her happy and typical childhood was cut short when the war broke-out. Her father was drafted into the army. Her mother and sister were sent to Belzec. Lusia survived the war by wondering among gentile neighbors and acquaintances and hiding in the forest, getting into difficult situations. She was caught several times but was able escape due to her resourcefulness and her sharp instincts.
In 1945 at the end of the war, Lusia started her studies in the agricultural school of Kvutzat Hakovesh in Wałbrzych and in 1946 she moved to Freibitz to continue her training.
She arrived in Israel in 1948 after a long journey on the “Exodus”. She studied in the nursing school in Beer Yaakov and met Shaul Lilien. He had been a partisan survivor from Lvov. They married in 1954. Together they raised a small loving family.
Lusia was a wise and beloved modest woman. She enjoyed life, loved to dance and loved the sea. Her husband, daughter and grandson were her love and joy.
